Netflix Pokemon Live Action Series: Everything You Know So Far

Netflix's live-action Pokémon series is being produced, and the folks at the big red streaming machine reportedly running the show, one of the gimmicks behind "Lucifer," "Pick you!" he shouted.

Variety reports that the show will be written and executive produced by "Lucifer's" Joe Henderson, an interesting combination considering Pokémon's content for children. Netflix currently distributes a lot of Pokémon content, including "Pokémon: Indigo League," "Pokémon Journey," and multiple movies.

It is not surprising that Netflix wants to create more content for Pokémon's huge fan base: created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1995, Pokémon has become a household name with millions of fans worldwide. [Netflix has a great track record with video game adaptations, as evidenced by the success of "The Witcher" and "Castlevania. The upcoming "Cuphead" also looks pretty good.

What may unsettle poke fans, however, is that Netflix's other film adaptations, especially those adapted from anime to live-action, have not been as well received: the 2017 Netflix film "Death Note" was not well received by fans of the original anime series, and the recent reboot of the Netflix film He-Man may have been a hit with critics, but it has generated a lot of controversy from viewers; expectations for Netflix's first foray into Pokémon are high, but some fans are proceeding cautiously.

Unfortunately, there is no information on a release date at this time. The most that can be said is that since the series has just been announced, we will probably not see the show until late 2022 at the earliest.

Variety reports that the show is in "early development" and that the post-production time needed to get the graphics right will take a while. At the very least, there are plenty of Pokémon anime episodes to watch on Netflix in the meantime.

There is still not much information on the cast; Variety said the series will be "similar" to the 2019 film "Detective Pikachu," not a continuation of it.

What is known is that the show will be written and executive produced by Joe Henderson, best known for his 2016 show Lucifer. It's hard to say how much of his experience writing for Hell Dweller will translate to writing for Pokémon, but we're interested to see his take.

All we are relying on is the above idea that Netflix's live-action Pokémon show would be similar to the "Detective Pikachu" movies.

While it is unlikely to be a direct sequel or continuation, it does give us a hint of what the series might look like. A witty, contemporary series that focuses on how Pokémon fit into everyday life would be a dream come true.
