Doctor Who Season 13 Trailer, Episode, Jodie Whittaker Departure and Everything we Know So Far

We always knew "Doctor Who" Season 13 was coming, but the pandemic has made the show's future a bit tenuous, not that the BBC is ending the show that began nearly 60 years ago.

Thankfully, we know a lot more than we did before Comic-Con@Home. And the BBC has provided enough information to fill the Tardis pool.

The BBC has not revealed the exact release date (or month) for the first episode of the 13th season of Doctor Who. However, the broadcaster did confirm that it is expected to arrive by the end of the year.

As usual, episodes will premiere on BBC One in the UK and will air on BBC America and other international broadcasters later that day.

We cannot speculate when "Doctor Who" will return. Add COVID to the mix, and the BBC's practice of not revealing the release date until several weeks before broadcast makes it impossible to even guess the date.

Filming for the 13th season of Doctor Who began last November, at which point the BBC confirmed that the 13th season would consist of only eight episodes. This is two episodes less than the 11 episodes that made up season 12.

This is all due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only was filming delayed by two months, but the strict government and industry safety measures put in place meant that each episode took much longer to film. As a result, there was only time to put together eight episodes this year.

The BBC later announced that the number of episodes would be raised to nine instead, to take into account the drop of Jodie Whittaker and showrunner Chris Chibnall. A six-part serial will air this fall, followed by three feature-length specials next year. The first will appear in January and the last in the fall of 2022.

The cast of "Doctor Who" is constantly changing, but this time around familiar faces will return. Jodie Whittaker returns as the 13th Doctor, but clearly she is not alone. The cast known so far is as follows:

John Bishop joins the Tardis as a main cast member, but Jacob Anderson is only mentioned as a guest star. However, Jacob Anderson is only mentioned as a guest star.

No doubt there will be many other guest stars this season, but so far the BBC has not told us who they are.

The BBC also announced that the 13th season of Doctor Who will be the last time we will see the 13th Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker. She will exit after a special episode in the fall of 2022, which will also coincide with the BBC's 100th anniversary.

The first female Doctor has apparently made a commitment to showrunner Chris Chibnall to step down after three seasons, and the Tardis will be taken over by a new Doctor and a new showrunner. It is not clear who either of these two will be, but Whitaker's casting solidifies the idea that the Doctor could be anyone.

Nevertheless, it appears that the time has come for the Doctor to finally get their wish and regrow into freshly-grown ginger hair.

As we saw above, the Doctor, Yaz, and Dan are about to embark on an even wilder adventure. What secrets is the Doctor keeping from those around him? The only way to find out is to tune in.

"Doctor Who" is doing things a little differently this year, as the producers have chosen one story that spans the entire season. Instead of the Doctor and his companions jumping into a new, unrelated adventure each week, each new episode is a chapter in a larger story.

We don't know exactly what this story is about, but showrunner Chris Chibnall confirmed that the Doctor and Yasu have been traveling together for some time after the events of "Dahlek's Revelation." Dan Lewis, played by John Bishop, will join the duo at some point (probably in the first episode), but the circumstances are not clear.

It may also have something to do with what was revealed in the season 12 finale. A revelation that would completely shake up the history of the Doctor and "Doctor Who."
