Keurig Announces New BrewID Smart Coffee Maker Technology

Keurig has long been in the business of making morning coffee as effortless as possible, and the new K-Supreme Plus Smart Brewer, announced this week, is bringing that convenience into the WiFi-connected age. This latest brewer is the first to feature Keurig's new BrewID technology, which allows users to connect the device to their smartphone to control brew strength, temperature, size, and automatic brewing, giving them as much customization as the finest coffee makers.

Users can fine-tune the coffee to their individual preferences from their smartphone and brew it with a single tap before saving or renaming presets. Of course, all of these controls are also available on the machine itself, making this a great option for those who prefer simplicity of use.

Currently available only on the Keurig website, the K-Supreme Plus Smart is priced at $199.99, making it a particularly good value. Admittedly, it is a bit more expensive than the current line when looking at Keurig's best options. But when you factor in the extensive customization options, integrated smartphone features, and the new and improved steeping process (one needle to penetrate the film in each pod is replaced by five for more uniform water dispersion), the K-Supreme Plus Smart is an attractive proposal.

WiFi-enabled coffeemakers have been around the market for some time, with Hamilton launching an Alexa-enabled device and Smarter offering remote brewing capabilities with its iCoffee drip line. In fact, it is much easier to find WiFi connectivity in drip coffeemakers, while pod coffeemakers are latecomers.

Nespresso has yet to make a move of its own, but recently launched a touchless moment model for the office space that also utilizes a smartphone app. But even the best Nespresso machines are not WiFi-compatible for home use. [As the K-Supreme Plus proves, they may not be as expensive as previous early releases. And as K-Supreme Plus proves, they may not be as expensive as previous early releases. Once these prices begin to reach the $199.99 position of Keurig's recent releases, they could gather momentum in the mainstream market.
