Tesla does not say whether the cyber truck is delayed

The Tesla Cyber Truck is currently scheduled to arrive by the end of this year, but there is some concern that the electric truck will be delayed. Worst of all, Tesla is unwilling to commit to either answer.

In a letter to investors, Tesla announced that it is "moving forward" toward production of the Cyber Truck. However, the only information we have on when production of the Cybertruck will begin is that it will begin after the Model Y is in production at the Tesla Gigafactory in Texas. That is expected to take place "by the end of the year."

Elektrek noted that the company issued a chart in the same document detailing the status of vehicle production capacity. From it, it is clear that various Tesla models are either in production or in the "construction" phase at plants around the world. The Cybertruck, however, is different.

The Cybertruck remains "in development" alongside the newly postponed Tesla Semi, the 2022 Roadster, and a "future product" - presumably a hatchback as recently confirmed by Elon Musk.

But this is not the only case of Tesla not talking about things publicly. During the Q2 earnings call earlier this week, the company was asked directly about Cybertruck production several times. He was even asked to "confirm" that production is planned for later this year.

"The Cybertruck is in the process of completing basic engineering of the vehicle's architecture. As Eron said, it inherits much of the structural pack and large cast design of the Model Y being built in Berlin and Austin. Obviously, they take precedence over the cybertruck, but we are moving into the beta phase of the cybertruck later this year and are looking to ramp up production at Giga Texas once the Model Y is up and running."[11

This is not really an answer to the question. We can confirm that the cybertrack is still in the works, but there is no indication of when it will happen. Unfortunately, Tesla does not have a particularly good track record with regard to delays. Also, the development is still in the alpha stage, which does not paint a very positive picture for Cybertruck.

With only five months to go until 2021, the clock is ticking for the company to sort things out and begin manufacturing the truck. Especially given all the features and performance already promised.

Frankly, we will just have to wait and see. The CyberTruck may go into production by the end of the year, or it may not. And until Tesla tells us what is actually happening, we can only speculate.
