The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is the curved mini LED monitor of your dreams

Samsung appears to have developed an ultra-wide-angle gaming monitor that can match the color depth and contrast of the best OLED TVs on the market. However, it comes at a cost to match.

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is a 49-inch ultra-ultrawide monitor that uses the same mini-LED technology as the iPad Pro 2021 display. These tiny LEDs allow the panel to have finer local dimming control, similar to OLEDs, and can significantly increase brightness for enhanced HDR. However, those who have been waiting for an ultrawide gaming monitor that can match the quality of OLEDs will have to shell out $2,500 for this opportunity.

Samsung's Odyssey Neo G9 will probably be the highest-spec ultrawide to date when it launches on August 9, with a 5,120 x 1,440 32:9 panel with an aggressive 1000R curve, 2,000 nits peak brightness, and HDR 10+ certification, 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 1ms response time (gray-to-gray), and a 240Hz refresh rate. The monitor also supports both FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-Sync.

The Quantum mini-LED is the same one that illuminates Samsung's excellent QN90A Neo QLED TV. Our senior writer Kate Kozuch claimed that the QN90A Neo is the best LCD TV on the market today, even considering the backlight's unevenness issues and lack of Dolby Vision support. Of course, unlike OLEDs, mini LEDs are much brighter, especially in bright rooms. Therefore, watching a movie with the windows open should be much more feasible.

Like last year's Samsung Odyssey G9, this monitor has a glossy white backplate and a central RGB ring light on the back. The "Infinity Core Lighting System" on the back allows for 52 colors and five lighting effect options.

Pre-orders for the $2,499.99 Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 begin July 29, and the monitor will ship August 9.
