Microsoft appears to be working on a sequel to its dual-screen Surface Duo. While the device pictured closely resembles last year's original in many ways, the images show that the Microsoft Surface Duo 2 adds a triple camera array.

The news comes from our sister site Windows Central and was first reported by the unnamed YouTube channel Tech Rat The video by Tech Rat is unremarkable, showing only a few low-quality photos of the device narrated by an automated voice narrated by an automated voice.

Although the photos appear to be of low quality, Windows Central claims they are authentic.

According to the report, the triple camera array will consist of an ultra-wide angle, telephoto, and standard lens. Aside from that, the Surface Duo 2 looks very similar to last year's device.

Interestingly, Windows Central believes that the Surface Duo 2 may feature a frosted glass exterior and a black color scheme. The fingerprint reader also appears to have moved and may now be embedded in the power button; the USB Type-C port will be located on the right side of the device; and the fingerprint reader will be located on the left side of the device.

As for a release date, Windows Central expects the device to ship in September or October of this year. The device is also expected to offer more updated hardware, unlike last year's device, which launched for a wallet-busting $1,400 but featured 2019 specs. The triple lens array could be seen as a sign of this.

Windows Central believes the Surface Duo 2 will feature a Snapdragon 888 processor, 5G support, and NFC communication for wireless payments.

The device's price is not known at this time. In our review of last year's model, we praised its sleek design and unique taste, but overall the device was a bit of a mixed bag, thanks to software glitches and underwhelming specs. The price was not favorable either.

Already, the price of the original Surface Duo has dropped by almost $1,000 to $410. Such a significant price drop indicates that Microsoft is trying to clear out its current inventory and make room for new ones.

The Duo sequel would have to be pretty spectacular to compete with other folding phones. Next month, Samsung will release its own foldable handsets, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. And past versions of both models have received warmer reviews than the original Surface Duo.
