Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and z Flip 3 Tip for impressive waterproof rating

With Samsung Unpacked less than two weeks away, details of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 are beginning to emerge.

According to a tweet from reliable leaker Max Weinbach, both foldable phones may be IPX8 waterproof. This means that both devices could work even if submerged under more than one meter of water.

Shortly after the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip prices were revealed by leaked information, word came out that they would be more durable.

This is not the first time we have heard about the waterproofing capabilities of Samsung's two foldable devices; Weinbach's claims are consistent with earlier reports by SamMobile sources that both premium foldable devices have finally gained waterproofing capabilities.

The waterproof capabilities of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 would be a major step forward for Samsung's foldable devices. Foldable devices are still relatively new, and consumers are still concerned about how durable they will be, especially given their high cost. A phone that can withstand submersion would be more attractive to mainstream users.

Nevertheless, while an IP rating of 8 level would greatly reduce the risk of failure due to water damage, the addition of the X means that there is still little dust resistance. This was an issue with the original Galaxy Z fold, and the model's release was delayed while Samsung worked out how to keep dust out of the hinge area.

In addition to improved durability, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is rumored to feature S Pen support, a 16MP under-display camera, 16GB of RAM, a triple rear camera lens, and a 4,380 mAh battery, all with Snapdragon 888 silicon, and may be powered by a Snapdragon 888. The design could also feature three possible optional colorways: black, green, and white.

Of course, nothing is set in stone as Samsung has yet to finalize anything. The good news is that the Galaxy Unpacked event is set for August 11.
