Stimulus Check: More than 4 billion just went out— Find out your payment status

According to the IRS, more than 2.2 million Americans have received stimulus checks in the past six weeks, totaling more than $4 billion.

Payments related to the stimulus checks3 provided by the Biden administration's American Rescue Plan have been rolling out in waves since mid-March. Initially, payments were made to those who were eligible to receive part or all of up to $1,400 and for whom the IRS had information.

However, the most recent batch was paid to individuals and families who had recently filed their tax returns or who qualified for so-called "plus-up" payments based on their most recent tax return.

In the past six weeks, approximately 1.3 million people have received their first stimulus payments and more than 900,000 taxpayers have received their Plus-Up payments.

So far, the federal government has distributed more than 171 million checks totaling $400 billion as part of the American Rescue Plan, and the IRS continues to urge those who do not normally file tax returns but may receive stimulus checks3 to file their returns as soon as possible. You may also qualify for the expanded child tax credit by filing your tax return. [The first round of cash payments were made last week (July 15), but you have until August 2 to add or update your direct deposit information or elect to receive an advance payment to receive more credits when you file your 2021 income tax return.

To help families file their tax returns and receive child tax credit payments, the IRS will be hosting several in-person events on July 23-24.

These events will be held in Birmingham, Alabama; Bronx, New York; Charlotte, North Carolina; Chicago, Illinois; Cleveland, Ohio; Dallas, Texas; Indianapolis, Indiana; Memphis, Tennessee; Minneapolis, Minnesota/ St. Paul, Newark, New Jersey; New Haven, Connecticut; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Paterson, New Jersey; Riverside, California; Seattle, Washington; and Tampa, Florida.
