Fans of Sherlock Holmes' rambunctious sister have been thrilled with Netflix's release of "Enola Holmes 2," the first of which was slated for a theatrical release but was picked up by Netflix instead and went on to become one of the streaming service's top 10 most-watched movies.

With "Enola Holmes" racking up a whopping 76 million views in its first month of release on the platform, it is no wonder that a sequel is in the works! The decision to produce "Enola Holmes 2" was only recently made, and details are still being worked out, but with inspiration from six books and audiences eagerly awaiting a sequel, it's safe to say the game is afoot.

Enola Holmes 2 returns to Nancy Springer's book series, helmed by writer Jack Thorne and director Harry Bradbeer. We expect more familiar faces to return on screen, but Netflix has so far spared no details.

But we still have a few breadcrumbs, so here's everything we know about Enola Holmes 2 so far.

Netflix announced on its social media accounts on May 13 that it had ordered "Enola Holmes 2" but has yet to announce a release date.

Enola Holmes debuted on Netflix in September 2020, but hoping for a sequel to be delivered in the same month this year seems like a fruitless endeavor. Let's not forget that star Millie Bobby Brown is reprising her role as Eleven in "Stranger Things" Season 4; there are only so many hours in a day, so it's hard to imagine the actress simultaneously filming a new series and a movie.

With the new season of Stranger Things scheduled to be released next year, it is assumed that Enola Holmes 2 will be released in late 2022.

Not entirely unknown about Enola Holmes 2: Netflix's announcement tweet confirmed the return of Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes and Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes.

The previous film did not show much of a relationship between the two siblings, with the protagonist Enola getting her own way and Sherlock and his brother Mycroft acting more as a hindrance.

Netflix was embroiled in a lawsuit last year over its portrayal of Sherlock after the release of "Enola Holmes. According to the heirs of Arthur Conan Doyle's estate, Holmes was portrayed as too emotional and warm-hearted, and putting these traits together, coupled with his respect for women, amounted to copyright infringement (via The Guardian).

The lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice, so it may have been settled behind closed doors, but it will be interesting to see how things play out with Cavill once again playing the world-famous detective.

While Enola has solved the first mystery, there is plenty of room for her family ties to be re-explored. At this stage, however, we do not know if Sam Claflin will once again take on the mantle of Mycroft Holmes or if Helena Bonham Carter will appear as Eudoria Holmes.

Unless Enola's next outing changes significantly from where we saw her off on the streets of London, it is almost certain that Mycroft and Eudoria will return along with Adir Akhtar as Inspector Lestrade. But until we have confirmation, this is pure speculation/wishful thinking for now.

The first Enola Holmes film was inspired by the first book, The Marquis Disappeared. As is the case with most adaptations, several things were changed in the film, including Enola's age and details of Lord Tewkesbury's disappearance.

Enola Holmes 2 could take its story from any of the other books, perhaps the second, The Case of the Left-Handed Lady. The story follows Enola as she tries to find Lady Cecily Alicea, who has disappeared from her bedroom. When the disguised Enola talks to Lady Cecily's family, they believe that Lady Cecily has eloped with the son of a trader. However, Enola finds a strange painting, which casts doubt on their story.
