Ratched Season 2: Everything You Know So Far

Ratched Season 2: Everything You Know So Far

Psycho Nurse Sees You Now...... For Season 2 of "Ratched," Netflix's horror thriller returns to delve further into the crazy world of nurse Mildred Ratched (Sarah Paulson).

Season 2 of "Ratched" will definitely happen, as the Ryan Murphy-produced show has received a two-season order from Netflix to get started. The first season introduced a younger version of the iconic character from the classic 1975 film "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." In Season 2, the story continues until the timeline matches the movie.

The prequel series was co-created by Ryan Murphy and Evan Romanski and begins with Mildred getting a nursing job at Lucia State Hospital.

Mildred poses as stylish and methodical on the outside but hides a growing darkness on the inside. In Season 1, Mildred is revealed to be the foster sister of serial killer Edmund Tolson (Finn Whitlock), who is being treated in a hospital.

Meanwhile, California Governor George Wilburn (Vincent D'Onofrio) funds the controversial experiment, hoping the project will help his reelection.

Here is what we know so far about Ratched Season 2.

Netflix has not yet announced a release date for Ratched season 2.

It is unclear when filming for Season 2 will begin, as film and television production continues to be delayed due to the pandemic. Last September, Paulson told Variety that he would be "back to work soon, not on Ratched." That project is presumably the new season of American Horror Story.

Both shows are Murphy productions, which could keep the super-producer busy for some time.

"Nobody knows anything about Season 2. Because Ryan, with a lot of the things he has going on," Paulson said.

It seems likely that "Ratchet" Season 2 will shoot in the fall or winter of 2021, or possibly in the spring of 2022. In that case, it could be released on Netflix in late 2022.

The cast list for "Ratched" Season 2 is unconfirmed, but Sarah Paulson will certainly return as the title character, Nurse Mildred Rached.

Other cast members expected to return for Season 2 include:

Several Ratched cast members will not return for Season 2 because their characters have died. However, it is possible that they will appear in flashbacks, dreams, or visions:

Little is known about the exact plot details of Ratched season 2, but some inferences can be made from the ending of season 1.

In the finale, Edmund escapes from Lucia State Hospital with the help of fellow patient Charlotte and motel manager Louise. Meanwhile, Mildred has moved to Mexico to start over with her beloved Gwendolyn (diagnosed with lung cancer).

Then, after a two-year time slip, Edmund calls Mildred. He believes that she had previously planned to kill him, and tells her that he has found her new hiding place and intends to kill her and Gwendolyn. Mildred replies: Mildred's answer: not if she kills him first.

Ratched's whole idea is to approach the era of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

"We are definitely doing a second season, but if we were to continue, the plan would be about four seasons," Paulson explained to Elle.com. The fourth season would end with the Cuckoo's Nest era. But I don't think we'll be in the hospital (in the movie) unless it's before McMurphy is there, before all the patients are there, unless you want to see a CG Danny DeVitos or Jack Nicholson acting with me, but I don't know if that's the way it's done. I don't."
