Spider-Man: Spider-Verse 2 Release Date, cast and Everything we Know So far

"Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2" is the most anticipated animated comic book film of all time. But how long do we have to wait for the sequel to the 2018 Oscar winner for Best Animated Feature Film? And what happens in the film?

Well, its title ensures that there will be plenty of more interesting takes on Spider-Man, but still, there are plenty of clues scattered throughout that help paint a clearer picture. Furthermore, since the live-action "Spider-Man: No Way Home" will most likely feature multiple versions of Spidey, I have a feeling that the "Spider-Verse" will be more canonical than ever.

The original Spider-Verse animation, heavily inspired by Dan Slott's 2014 original comic, quickly won the hearts of audiences around the world thanks to its brilliant mix of humor, touching themes, and stunning, vibrant visuals.

Here is everything we know about "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2," including release date, cast, and the latest characters confirmed to appear.

"Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2" will have three directors, Joaquim Dos Santos, previously reported, plus Kemp Powers of "Soul" and "One Night in Miami" and Justin K. Thompson will join them.

Animated films may require longer development cycles than live-action films, but that hasn't stopped the brass at Sony Pictures from setting an official release date for "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2." If all goes according to plan, we can expect Mile Morales and friends to return on October 7, 2022.

The previously announced date of April 8, 2022 was delayed due to a series of Covid 19-related film delays. The date was provided by the Spider-Verse Twitter account this past November, and was accompanied by a GIF that gave no small hint as to which new Spider-Man character would be introduced (more on that later). Christopher Miller, one half of the writer/director duo, also tweeted along with this statement, making the date even more certain: "We're coming back."

Sony has yet to reveal a release date for the spin-off film, which is still in development and has been teased, but the Hollywood Reporter, published in November 2018, revealed Sony's strong interest in a female-only adventure starring an alternate universe spider Gwen revealed that the company is interested in the project. Don't expect it to appear before 2022's "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2," though.

Given that Spider-Verse 2's release date is October 2022, it would be very difficult to predict when that trailer will be released. The upcoming Sony Spider-Man films Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home are scheduled for release in late 2021, too early for a trailer for an October Spider-Man film, and for Morbius, due out January 28, 2022. The same can be said for.

Nevertheless, one can imagine some sort of end credits scene at the end of "No Way Home" riffing off "Spider-Verse 2."

The first "Into the Spider-Verse" had no shortage of impressive characters, so it is only natural that the sequel would feature even more. As for the returning cast, however, expect Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld to reprise their roles as Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy, respectively. Also returning are Brian T. Henry and Luna Lauren Velez, as well as Miles' mom and dad.

But what about the villains who will face off against Miles' gang? Well, Rodney Rothman, one of the co-directors of the original film, told Screen Rant in April that Doc Ock, played by Kathryn Han, will have a bigger role. He said: "We think of Liv as someone who will not disappear from the story," suggesting that she will no longer play second fiddle to someone like the Kingpin as she did before.

Still, Sonny has remained silent on whether Ock will be promoted to the central big bad of the new Spider-Verse crew, but we can expect more of her. As for the other villains, Tombstone, Scorpion, and the Green Goblin survived the first film and may reappear.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, producer Amy Pascal revealed that "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2" will focus on Miles and Gwen's relationship.

Pascal also mentioned that a Spider-Woman spin-off (scripted by Bec Smith) is in the works. He hopes that "Spider-Verse 2" will be in the works for that film. Its stars will be Spider-Gwen, Cindy Moon (Silk), and Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman).
