Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 3 will have company when it arrives next month. According to regulatory filings made prior to the launch of the new foldable phone, the Galaxy S Pen Pro will also be included with the latest Z Fold.

The Z Fold 3 won't officially debut until the rumored Galaxy Unpacked event in August, but we've already had our first look at the S Pen Pro since Samsung announced a more advanced stylus earlier this year. If you've forgotten about it, don't be embarrassed - at times it seemed like Samsung had forgotten about the S Pen Pro, too.

The Galaxy S Pen, which shipped with the Galaxy S21 lineup, is considered another accessory available for $40. This is in contrast to the way Samsung handled the S Pen with the Galaxy Note series, where the S Pen was included with the phablet.

Samsung did not announce the price of the S Pen Pro in January and has not revealed any new details since then. Assuming that the S Pen Pro will be added to Samsung phones as a separate product, the price of the S Pen Pro is expected to be higher given the additional features. The standard S Pen, which currently sells for $40, is only compatible with the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Samsung did not include a slot for the S Pen in the S21 Ultra, so if you need a place to store the stylus, you will also need to purchase a separate case. It is unclear if Samsung has found a solution to accommodate the S Pen Pro in the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

The weight and size of the S Pen Pro is completely unknown. From the side-by-side images Samsung released in January, it is clear that the Pro version is longer than the standard version. Incidentally, the existing S Pen is slightly longer than 4 inches; the length of the S Pen Pro is probably closer to a pencil and easier to hold than the Samsung stylus you're used to.

This is where the difference between the Galaxy S Pen and the S Pen Pro really comes into play: the S Pen Pro has Bluetooth connectivity, something that is missing from the current S Pen used by S21 Ultra users. And when it comes to what can be done with the S Pen, this makes a huge difference.

The S Pen is a useful tool for jotting down notes or drawing detailed sketches on the S21 Ultra's 6.8-inch screen. However, it does not support Air Actions, a feature that Galaxy Note users have enjoyed, where the S Pen essentially acts as a remote control.

This problem does not occur with the Pen Pro, which has Bluetooth. As a result, you can use the S Pen Pro to control media playback on your phone or take a photo using the S Pen Pro as a shutter button. the Galaxy Z Fold 3, or any Samsung device that supports the S Pen Pro, is a better productivity tool. More information from Samsung is needed to get a full picture of the differences between the Galaxy S Pen and S Pen Pro. Besides practical considerations like the size and cost of the new stylus, we need to know exactly what the added support for Air Actions will allow us to do.

However, the S Pen Pro will be an attractive companion to the Galaxy Z Fold 3. When fully opened, its foldable form is expected to provide at least 7.5 inches of screen space; an easy-to-hold device with built-in Bluetooth would provide such space. Also, if the S Pen Pro improves productivity on the Galaxy Z Fold 3, then Samsung is making the case that foldable phones should become more mainstream.
