Tesla's Supercharger has been upgraded and should be able to feed power to some electric vehicles faster. Elon Musk confirmed that the Supercharger station will be able to charge Tesla EVs at up to 300 kilowatts. This is a marked improvement from the current 250 kW capacity.

This upgrade should allow many Tesla owners to charge their batteries faster and reduce queue times at the Supercharger station. in 2019, Tesla's V3 Supercharger with a capacity of 250 kW will allow the typical time spent at the station stated that the typical time spent at the station will be reduced to 15 minutes. Even after the upgrade, Tesla's Supercharger will have less capacity than some other charging networks. For example, Electrify America can charge EVs at up to 350 kW.

However, capacity is not the only consideration when it comes to charging. The "charge curve" (the change in charge rate as the battery is fully charged) is also important. Studies have also shown that fast charging may accelerate battery degradation.

Nevertheless, the faster a charging network can speed up the charging of EVs, the more likely consumers will choose electric vehicles. If a network can speed up charging to the same time it takes to fill up a typical internal combustion engine car with gasoline, so much the better.
