OnePlus Nord2 90Hz Display Confirmed as the Surface of New Camera Rumors

OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus Nord 2 will feature a 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. This means that the Nord 2's display specs are essentially the same as the original OnePlus Nord, which is not a bad thing since the Nord has a pretty impressive screen for a sub-$500 price point.

We are also hearing rumors of a new OnePlus Nord 2 regarding the camera as new renderings of the device surface.

This rendered image, posted by 91mobiles, appears to show just one front punch-hole camera, where the original Nord had two, and a slightly slimmer bezel.

These are hardly dramatic changes. However, if these renderings are legitimate, the Nord 2 may have a slightly more aesthetically pleasing screen than its predecessor.

Despite the July 22 launch date, OnePlus has been happily previewing the Nord 2's features, the biggest being the main camera specs.

OnePlus stated that the Nord 2's primary camera will have a 50MP sensor and optical image stabilization. This is a small upgrade over the Nord's 48MP. However, the real difference in camera performance will likely be on the software side.

OnePlus is working with Hasselblad on image processing for the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro, and we wonder if that work will be reflected in the Nord.

Ishan Agarwal, a somewhat reliable leaker, tweeted that the Nord 2 may have the Sony IMX766 sensor found in the OnePlus 9 device and the high-end Oppo Find X3 Pro. However, these are flagship models with 48MP cameras, the Nord was not, and the Nord 2 is not likely to be either. So this information should be viewed with a skeptical eye.

Speaking of cameras, previous renderings suggested that the Nord 2 would have a rear camera array similar in design to the OnePlus 9 device.

The original Nord had a pill-shaped camera array that, while neat, was not eye-catching. By comparison, the OnePlus 9 phones have a rectangular/rectangular layout with two large sensors and (depending on the model) one or two smaller cameras below them, giving the camera module a distinctive look. If the Nord 2 replicates this, the overall design may be a more sophisticated evolution than its predecessor.

OnePlus also tweeted that the Nord 2 will come with the latest version of OxygenOS 11, which is to be expected. But the company also said the Nord 2 will receive two major Android upgrades and three years of security updates.

As for other confirmed specs and features, most notably, in contrast to the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon system-on-chip found in the original Nord, the Nord 2 will opt for the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset by choosing the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset.

The MediaTek chip includes AI technology, which OnePlus claims will help deliver better image processing and automatically improve the color, contrast, and resolution of videos in certain apps. In our experience, such enhancements can have mixed results, so we will need to see this feature in action to determine if choosing MediaTek over Qualcomm was the right choice.

The Nord 2 is expected to have 8 and 12 GB of RAM and a 4,500 mAh battery.

Pricing for the Nord 2 has not yet been finalized and it will not be available in the US. India will be the first country to get the upcoming Nord, and the UK is also set to get the phone.

The launch price of the first Nord in the UK was £379, and it was later released in the US, but prices vary somewhat between sellers. However, if we had to guess, we would say that the Nord 2 will be priced at around $450.

We will know more when the full Nord is revealed next week. With so much competition in the cheap to mid-range android phone space, we are eager to see if the Nord 2 can see OnePlus rise again to offer a phone that we can recommend without a shred of doubt.
