Djokovic has beaten Shapovalov in all six of their meetings over the past three years, but this is the first time they have met at Wimbledon. Shapovalov has won only two sets so far, at the 2020 ATP Cup in Australia and the 2019 Australian Open. The remaining 13 sets. All are Djokovic.

Shapovalov's Wimbledon path has had some clear wins, but not as smooth as Djokovic's. While he defeated Andy Murray and Roberto Bautista Agut in three sets, he needed all five sets against Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals and Philipp Kohlschreiber in the first round.

Shapovalov also earned a bye in the second round after Pavlo Andújar had to withdraw before the match started due to a rib injury.
