Here's a guide to the best new shows and movies to watch this July on Netflix, HBO Max, Disney Plus, and more.

Netflix is adapting the popular R.L. Stine novel that scared you as a kid into a series of movies that will scare you as an adult: "Fear Street: 1994" on July 2, "Fear Street: 1978" on July 8, and on July 16, " Fear Street: 1666" will complete the series. The whole idea is quite novel. Like the books, the films focus on a series of murders that took place in the town of Shadyside over a period of 300 years. Expect a lot of eerie horror and grotesque scenes.

Long in development, "Tomorrow War" will finally be released this month thanks to Amazon Prime Video. Chris Pratt trades his Star-Lord jacket for a time travel device in this mind-blowing action epic. In the film, Dan Forrester (Pratt) finds himself fighting in a war that takes place decades in the future after a time traveler returns to warn humanity of its defeat; J.K. Simmons also stars as Dan's estranged father. You may not expect an instant classic, but it's definitely a high-octane popcorn movie.

The beloved teen drama series Gossip Girl is being rebooted by HBO Max this summer. Kristen Bell will return as the eponymous narrator who sees everything through, but other than that, the cast will be entirely new. Confirmed to follow the same continuity as the original series, the show will follow a new group of privileged Manhattan youths as they hook up, find love, and inevitably betray each other. The show's creators say the reboot will address "how much social media has changed," and expect to see plenty of winks and references to the world of online dating and the Gen Z obsession with being the next big Instagram influencer

After three original series, it's finally time for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to return to the big screen. Those who prefer to see it on a slightly smaller display can do so thanks to Disney Plus Premier Access. The Black Widow has long been delayed from its original May 2020 release date, but early critical reviews suggest that the wait will be well worth it: in this first MCU film since 2019, Scarlett Johansson once again dons Natasha Romanoff's black jumpsuit and this time with the help of a surrogate family played by David Harbour, Rachel Weisz, and Florence Pugh.

Mike White returns to HBO after his previous series, Enlightened, was cancelled in 2013 despite near-unanimous praise from critics. "The White Lotus" is set at a tropical resort with strange guests and even stranger employees. The new limited series is a weeklong look at the The cast includes Connie Britton, Jennifer Coolidge, Steve Zahn, Jake Lacy, Alexandra Daddario, and Molly Shannon. Expect White's signature blend of comedy and drama. If you subscribe to HBO Max, you won't want to miss this series.

Heralded as a mostly female-led "John Wick," "Gunpowder Milkshake" stars Karen Gillan and Lena Headey as an estranged mother-daughter pair. Gillan and Hedy must put aside their differences and team up with a pair of even sluttier women to take down a ruthless crime lord, played by Paul Giamatti, after a dangerous mission goes wrong that puts their young child in danger. Gunpowder Milkshake is shaping up to be one of the biggest surprise hits of the summer.

The call for a sequel to 1996's "Space Jam" may not have been particularly loud, but a sequel will be released anyway. Sports icon Michael Jordan returns in a small role, but this time the focus is on LeBron James, who must lead his toon team to victory in a high-stakes game of basketball. This live-action/animated hybrid also features classic Looney Tunes characters such as Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. Space Jam Space Jam: A New Legacy will surely be one of the silliest films of the summer, but it may also be one of the funniest.

Billed by Netflix as "the weirdest blind date ever," "Sexy Beast" is like a cross between "Love is Blind" and "The Masked Diva." It is a dating series in which hopeful singles hide their appearance by dressing up in elaborate animal-themed costumes before meeting potential partners. The series aims to prove that beauty really is skin deep, or that it is possible to develop a connection with a partner without seeing their face. Of course, most viewers will only watch for the slightly creepy prosthetics and the ridiculousness of the core concept.

The most over-the-top show on television is getting a new season this July. Ted Russo is back and his boundless optimism will be put to the test now that his AFC Richmond team has been banned from the Premier League. There are also rumors that team owner Rebecca Welton has a new girlfriend, which could lead to new relationships. Nevertheless, let's hope that an old duo like Roy and Keeley can weather the storm of the second year. It is no exaggeration to say that Season 2 of "Ted Rathbos" is likely to be the highlight of this summer's TV schedule.

Also based on an amusement park ride, the Disney feature film "Jungle Cruise" is scheduled for theatrical release and Disney Plus premiere access on July 30. The adventure film stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt as a pair of intrepid explorers who go on an expedition through the jungle in search of the tree of life. Jesse Plemons plays a German aristocrat trying to find that tree for himself. Expect the traditional Disney formula of family-friendly fun, over-the-top set pieces, and perhaps a heartwarming ending.

Based on the groundbreaking 1945 novel of the same name, "The Pursuit of Love" is a sensual drama set between World Wars I and II. The film follows two cousins from upper-class families as they try to overcome the pain of heartbreak and growing up. Starring a stellar cast including Lily James, Emily Beecham, Dominic West, Andrew Scott, and Emily Mortimer, The Pursuit of Love aired on the BBC in May to positive reviews, and U.S. viewers can finally enjoy it on Prime Video later this month. .
