Parallels uses hardware virtualization, or software to create virtual machines and run Windows X86 code on the M1; Parallels requires an annual subscription to get software support for Windows on the Mac, somewhat cumbersome for users who have been using Boot Camp.

Parallels claims that over 7 million people use its software, indicating that there is demand from Mac users for Windows compatibility. the release of Windows 11 is rumored to be in October, but Parallels has yet to announce a virtualization release date for its virtualization software. However, it would not be surprising if it is released around the same time.
