Dell's new 4K UltraSharp may be the best webcam in the world

The webcam world is mostly dominated by Logitech and Razer, but a new challenger has emerged. [Dell has introduced the UltraSharp Webcam, a 4K camera with HDR and AI autoframing in an all-aluminum cylindrical body. Austin-based Dell positions the UltraSharp as the world's best image-generating and intelligent 4K webcam. It is now available worldwide and is priced at $199.

Dell claims that it developed the UltraSharp to attract professional photographers. It uses Sony's 4K Starvis CMOS sensor and a multi-element lens to capture more light. DSLRs tend to use multi-element lenses to ensure that all light enters perpendicular to the sensor. Dell challenged its engineering team to develop a webcam that is "intelligent and easy to use, yet delivers DSLR-like image quality."

For office workers who work from home or continue to telecommute, Dell believes its new webcam will help everyone see best, including competitive gamers. Dell claims that the UltraSharp is ideal for videoconferencing, but also for live streaming esports on Twitch.

Aside from the sensor technology, Dell boasts that Digital Overlap HDR "helps keep colors true and exposure balanced." There is also a video noise reduction feature that removes graininess in dark environments.

The killer feature of UltraSharp, however, is not resolution, but AI autoframing. This technology parrots the iPad Pro 2021's best feature by ensuring that the subject is within the frame as much as possible.

The Ultra Sharp features Windows Hello for quick and secure sign-in. It also offers Dell ExpressSign-in, a feature similar to Hello that works on Dell PCs to help users log in and log off once they leave. Finally, there is a magnetic privacy cover that snaps into the back.

We will be testing the Dell UltraSharp soon, so stay tuned for a full review.
