Features revealed by Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3fcc - including S Pen

There have been a lot of rumors floating around about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 over the past few months, but one of the biggest rumors seems to have been confirmed.

The fold was certified by the FCC, as all phones must be before they can be sold in the US. It will also include support for the long-rumored S Pen.

Two different Galaxy Z Fold 3 models, the SM-F926U and SM-F926U1, were submitted to the FCC for certification, and the supporting documents reveal what we should expect from the phones themselves.

Many of the features are very standard, exactly what we would expect from a premium Samsung smartphone: support for mmWave and sub-6 5G, Wi-Fi 6, UWB, Bluetooth, NFC, and more. But there are some things we didn't know before, or had no concrete evidence of. [The documents reveal that the Z Fold 3 will offer 9W Qi wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. This is a slight reduction from the 11W wireless charging speed available on the Galaxy Z Fold 2, and it is not clear why or at what reduced speed. [Most importantly, however, it was confirmed that the Z Fold 3 will indeed support the S Pen. It has also been confirmed that the Z Fold 3 will have a digitizer function that uses inductive coupling to enable S Pen functionality.

In other words, rumors that Samsung had to redesign the underlying technology of the S Pen to make it compatible with flexible glass screens appear to be false.

The only question remaining is whether the Z Fold 3 will come with an S Pen like the Galaxy Note series, or whether it will be sold separately like the Galaxy Note 21 Ultra. If the latter, there is a strong possibility that the Z Fold 3 will not have a dedicated S Pen slot; the FCC document does not illustrate the phone and does not provide a clear explanation on this matter.

Despite being certified by the FCC, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 still has many unanswered questions. Rumors have given us an idea of what to expect, but they are not nearly as reliable.

However, rumors suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 could feature a 6.2-inch outer display and a 7.5-inch inner foldable display. Each supports a 120 Hz refresh rate and HDR10+.

It is also expected to feature the Snapdragon 888 chipset, with 12GB and 16GB RAM options and 256GB and 512GB storage. It is also likely to feature 25W fast wired charging, like last year's Z Fold 2.

On the camera front, it is expected to feature a triple-lens main camera array with three 12MP lenses and a 10MP selfie camera on the outer display. There are also rumors that a 16MP under-display camera may be mounted under the large foldable display. Reports state that the Z Fold 3 will have a 4,400 mAh battery and will be the first in Samsung's foldable product line to receive an official IP waterproof rating.
