XOXO, the "Gossip Girl" reboot is coming soon in style, and HBO Max just released the trailer for the full-length "Gossip Girl" a few weeks before the show premieres. The show is definitely on TV2021's must-see list for the summer. A new generation of teenagers is about to take New York City by storm.

Gossip Girl 2021 takes place eight years after the original series. A group of new students at an elite private school will live under the watchful eye of an all-seeing gossip girl (a copycat, I guess). In the meantime, social media and the city's landscape have changed dramatically, but one thing has remained the same.

Bell is not the only OG returning from the first "Gossip Girl" series. Creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are executive producing the reboot, with writer/producer Joshua Safran penning the script.

Here is what we know so far about the Gossip Girl reboot.

Gossip Girl 2021 will be released on July 8 on HBO Max.

On May 19, HBO Max announced in an uncharacteristic social media post that Gossip Girl will start in July.

The first season will consist of 10 episodes and will be released weekly.

HBO Max released the full "Gossip Girl" trailer on July 9, just weeks after the premiere date. The glossy video, set to Frank Ocean's "Super Rich Kids," introduces the next generation of privileged prep school students. And it heralds the return of "Gossip Girl," now an all-seeing Instagram account.

Earlier this year, HBO Max released a teaser trailer for "Gossip Girl" that issued an ominous warning to New York teens.

"I can see you guys," Gossip Girl says.

"And I'll make sure you can see you, too, before I go through with it.

When HBO Max first announced the Gossip Girl reboot, the first question on everyone's mind was: will the original cast return?

The answer, unfortunately, seems to be no, except that Kristen Bell will return as narrator.

Blake Lively (Selina Van Der Woodsen) told Variety in 2017, "In a way, it all depends. Would I do this show for seven years? No, because it's hard work and I have a baby and I don't want to be away from it that much. But one thing I've learned in life is never say never. I want to do something I haven't done yet. But I don't know if I'll do it. If it's a good thing, if it makes sense. I had a lot of fun shooting, living, and working in New York.

Leighton Meester (who plays Blair Waldorf) said something similar, telling E. News, "Never say never."

Chace Crawford (Nate Archibald) is definitely on board for a return to Gossip Girl, although he is currently busy filming "The Boys" season 3. He told August Mann, "If there's an opportunity for a cameo in the future, I would definitely accept it."

Penn Badgley (Dan Humphrey) is less enthusiastic. He is busy with his own show and has just finished Season 3 of You. I think it's clear I've never been a Dan Humphrey supporter," he explained to Entertainment Tonight. 'I wasn't Dan Humphrey's biggest friend or fan. It would depend on how and why he was there.

According to executive producer Josh Schwartz, the door is always open if one of them wants to appear. He told reporters in 2019, "If they want to be in it, we'd love to have them, but we didn't want to make it a requirement [that they be in it]."

The original stars are a "maybe," but "Gossip Girl" 2021 is OK with a fresh cast to play teenagers at an elite private school:

Emily Alyn Lind, who plays Audrey, "After a long relationship, I'm starting to think there's more to it. I'm starting to think there's more to it." Her mother is an athleisure designer.

Jordan Alexander plays Julian Calloway, a teen influencer who is best friends with Audrey.

Evan Mock as Akeno "Aki" Menzies, who has known Audrey "forever" and is described as "innocent."

Whitney Peek as Zoya Lott, a "friendly tour guide" to the wealthy world of the private school set.

Eli Brown as Obi, whose full name is Otto Bergman IV. He is "a rich good man and a German import."

And let's not forget the older denizens of the Gossip Girl world - parents, teachers, inappropriate love targets--they are the ones who are the most important to the story. Laura Benanti has joined the reboot, as has Elizabeth Lail (who co-starred with Badgley in the first season of "You").

The following is the official synopsis of the reboot by HBO Max: "Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York City private school teenagers are introduced to the social scrutiny of Gossip Girl. This prestige series addresses how much social media, and the New York landscape itself, has changed in the intervening years.

The biggest difference between the old and new "Gossip Girl" is that their identities are no longer a secret.

"The idea of a group of adults being controlled by Gossip Girl didn't feel like it made much sense," Schwartz told E. News.

"So I found this idea that now we're all gossip girls, and in our own ways we're all purveyors of our own social media surveillance status really interesting. It felt like the right time to tell that story through a new generation of Upper East Side high school students."

And while the original stars may not appear, they are still part of the GG world. Saffron told Entertainment Tonight, "The characters talk about them, they exist." 'When the show ended, we flew five years into the future, and now we're past those five years.'

Another change is that the story actually takes the characters beyond Manhattan and outside the boroughs, which is jaw-dropping. Not everyone lives on the Upper East Side," he said. Brooklyn is not a bad place to live. In the new version, Brooklyn will be cooler than Manhattan.

The cast is also more diverse, depending on the producer's choices. This time around, "the lead is non-white. There is a lot of queer content in this show," Safran told Vulture. 'It's about where wealth and privilege come from and how we deal with that. What I can't tell you is that there is a twist, and it has everything to do with the twist."

And since the twist is not about unmasking Gossip Girl, we will have to wait and see what it is.
