The OnePlus Nord2 specification has just been tipped by the reader

OnePlus is set to unveil its next budget smartphone, the OnePlus Nord 2, but ahead of that, more specs and a possible release date have been revealed. The biggest rumored upgrade is battery capacity.

91Mobiles spotted a tweet earlier this week from YouTuber and leaker Mukul Sharma, which gave a July release date for "another Nord device" that is "likely to be the OnePlus Nord 2." As the website points out, this could be an India-only launch date; Sharma is known for providing fairly reliable OnePlus leaked information and routinely unearths details from Indian authentication listings.

The OnePlus Nord was announced in July 2020 and launched in both Europe and India in early August. The device did not debut in the U.S., but OnePlus' new budget line was established, with the OnePlus Nord N10 5G and OnePlus Nord N100 now available in the U.S.

91Mobiles references earlier rumors that cite June and July as the release dates for two of OnePlus' upcoming smartphones, one of which is the OnePlus Nord CE 5G. OnePlus confirmed today that it will speak further about that particular device and July seems promising for the release of the OnePlus Nord 2.

Meanwhile, the website also shared the reported OnePlus Nord 2 specs, and while we've already seen some of them floating around, here is some new information to add to the pile.

In addition to the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chip, the OnePlus Nord 2 will reportedly launch with two storage options: 8GB + 128GB and 12GB + 256GB. 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen, possibly a fingerprint scanner under the display. This is consistent with unofficial renderings of the OnePlus Nord N10, which does not have a physical fingerprint reader on the back. [This is to be expected given OnePlus' commitment to include "Fluid Display technology" in all its smartphones.

As for the camera, the OnePlus Nord 2 may feature three rear lenses consisting of a 50MP + 8MP + 2MP sensor, seemingly confirming the discontinuation of the fourth lens on the OnePlus Nord. 50MP sensor is the same Sony lens used in the OnePlus 9 Pro is rumored to be a Sony IMX766, the same as the ultra-wide angle lens on the OnePlus 9 Pro. On the front, there will reportedly be a 32MP selfie camera.

The OnePlus Nord had a 4,115 mAh battery, and according to 91Mobiles, the OnePlus Nord 2 will have a 4,500 mAh battery, which is expected to boost this department.

Of course, none of this is officially confirmed, but if it is another summer release, OnePlus will soon reveal more details about the OnePlus Nord 2.
