Ford could be on the way to make fun of the electric heretics

Ford has already committed to producing several electric trucks, one of which will likely be based on the Ford Maverick.

This hint comes from Mike Levine, Ford's North American product communications director, following the unveiling of the company's new plugless Maverick hybrid. Although specs were not disclosed, it appears that the next Maverick-style Ford will be all-electric.

And just like when Ford hinted at the possibility of an electric Bronco, this Maverick teaser comes in the form of a blue neon silhouette.

Levin also clarified that this is not just a random teaser, and the image means that another all-electric pickup could join Ford's ever-expanding lineup of electric vehicles.

The Silhouette vehicle may not simply be an electrified version of Maverick's standard and hybrid models. However, given the shape of the silhouette, it certainly looks a lot like a Maverick when viewed from the side.

Now, that does not mean that this tease guarantees the appearance of an all-electric Maverick. After all, anyone who craves a greener Maverick has the option of purchasing a hybrid model. Levin promises to offer Maverick customers a way to "make an immediate CO2 reduction impact" instead of relying on gasoline-only trucks.

Ford also unveiled the new hybrid Maverick at an impressive price of $20,000. Given that the Ford F-150 Lightning starts at $40,000 and the Maverick is a smaller truck, one hopes that this low price tag will carry over to future electric models.

Still, with all these new vehicles on the horizon and a goal of having at least 40% of sales be electric by 2030, it is clear that Ford is serious about making the switch from gas to electric vehicles.

It is clear that the Mustang Mach E is already on the market, and the F-150 Lightning will be available in early 2022. In addition, Ford has confirmed that an all-electric Explorer will be next. Then there's the rumored electric Bronco and an as yet unnamed electric car based on the ID.4 in partnership with VW. It's a pretty healthy upcoming lineup of electric cars.

We will report on Ford's burgeoning electric vehicle rollout as soon as we have more information. Until then, see our picks for the best electric cars you can buy right now.
