Netflix cowboy Bebop series hype clip reveals release window and more

Netflix's live-action "Cowboy Bebop" series is coming soon, and a short but sweet clip premiered at the streaming service's Geeked Week event is creating a buzz. Hit the play button and turn up the volume. We've embedded the clip below.

For those of you who don't know, "Cowboy Bebop" is a classic old-school animated series featuring a group of bounty hunters who hunt down criminals. However, the original series' excellent visuals, soundtrack, and dialogue made it a hit.

So let's dive into the news. For starters, look at John Cho as Spike Spiegel. The haircut! Spike's hair is perfect! If that doesn't make you swoon, I don't know what I'm thinking. Daniela Pineda and Mustafa Shakir (who play Faye Valentine and Jet Black, respectively) certainly look in character.

Next, some news from the trailer. The reason is that the genius composer Yoko Kanno, who created the soundtrack for the original anime, will also be responsible for the soundtrack of the Netflix series. Kanno's iconic song and opening theme for the original series, "Tank! is a must-listen.

Kanno's involvement should help existing (but wary) fans get a little more excited about this live-action adaptation. It's almost as important as Spike's hair. Almost.

Finally, a note from the title card. Those who paused or closed the clip early will miss the big news: Netflix's "Cowboy Bebop" adaptation will arrive in the fall of 2021.

The "Cowboy Bebop" series was scheduled to finish production in March 2021 and be released last year, but was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic and John Cho's knee injury.

The season will likely have 10 one-hour episodes. The original series has 26 episodes (called "sessions"), each just over 30 minutes long. The animated series is currently available on Hulu and Funimation.
