Samsung Galaxy S21FE was showcased in a colorful new unofficial rendering

Curious what the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21 FE will look like? Then take a look at these colorful new renderings of the budget flagship.

They come from the always accurate leaker Evan Blass, who shared eight unofficial renderings of the phone on his EV Leaks Twitter channel. Earlier this week, Blass also tweeted that Samsung will almost certainly position the Galaxy S21 FE as the successor to the shelved Galaxy Note 21.

With flagship phone prices continuing to soar into the four figures and beyond, it is not surprising that Samsung found success with last year's Galaxy S20 FE (or "Fun Edition"). Building on the previous year's S10 Lite, Samsung stripped away unnecessary extras and focused on delivering the core experience of the company's flagship without spending a fortune.

The Galaxy S21 FE is expected to continue that approach, and naturally, these rendered images are very similar to the Samsung Galaxy S21 that inspired it.

While it is true that the larger size makes it look a bit like the Galaxy S21 Plus, the pinhole camera, bezel-less design, and traffic light-style camera are all present and correct. The key difference, as predicted months ago, is that the camera bump is integrated into the plastic back plate, unlike the S21, where it extended from the metal frame of the device. [If this concept turns out to be accurate, it would mean the end of the two-tone design, which would be unfortunate. However, Blass speculates that by presenting renderings of the S21 FE, buyers will get a choice of colors, not only the traditional black and white color scheme, but also shades of lavender and olive green.

Samsung's success with the FE series has so far been built on not skimping on core specs. However, the S20 FE bucks this trend by using the same Snapdragon 865 processor as the S20. [Recently leaked benchmarks indicate that the S21 FE, like the S21 flagship on which it is based, will use Qualcomm's top-of-the-line Snapdragon 888 processor; RAM is said to be reduced from 8GB to 6GB, but in our experience, such a reduction little impact on benchmarks and day-to-day performance.

If the Galaxy S21 FE can match or exceed the S20 FE launch price of $699, Samsung should be a winner. These rendered images suggest that a launch is not far off, and while we don't know how accurate they are at this stage, we wouldn't be surprised to see this phone alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 when they appear in late summer.
