"Jupiter's Legacy" was cancelled by Netflix after one season, but will live on in the form of an animated spin-off series called "SuperCrux."

The adaptation of Mark Millar's comic premiered just a month ago on May 7, the first project to come out of Netflix's acquisition of Millarworld, the comic's publisher, and reportedly cost $200 million to produce the first season. A second season will not follow, as Miller announced on Twitter that "we have made the tough decision to remove our amazing cast from their show commitments."

That is a bit of a slippery slope way of saying that Jupiter's Legacy has been canceled, but it has been canceled.

Jupiter's Legacy featured Josh Duhamel, Ben Daniels, Leslie Bibb, Elena Kampouris, Andrew Horton, Mike Wade, and Matt Lanter. The story follows the world's first generation of superheroes who discovered their abilities in the 1930s and the empowered children who struggle to live up to their legendary parents.

The show debuted to tepid reviews, earning a rating of only 38% on Rotten Tomatoes (although viewer scores were higher at 72%). After its premiere, "Jupiter's Legacy" debuted at #1 on Netflix's Top 10, where it remained for several weeks; Netflix does not regularly release audience figures, but the streaming company apparently found the show to be underperforming.

"I'm really proud of what the team accomplished with 'Jupiter's Legacy' and the great job everyone did on that origin season," Miller said in a statement. He also left room for Jupiter's Legacy not to be discontinued in the future, adding, "I am confident we will return to it later."

Meanwhile, Miller is focusing on a new project, as Netflix has ordered a spin-off, "Super Cruise." The animated series is an adaptation of Miller's heist comic featuring eight supervillains; a sneak peek of Supercrooks will appear at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival this month.
