Amazon Prime Day 2021 dates confirmed on 6/21 and 22

Amazon Prime Day will take place on June 21 and 22. The dates for Prime Day were confirmed shortly after it was leaked last week that the annual sales event would take place in June. This means that Prime Day is less than three weeks away.

Prime Day is a mega-fake holiday for retailers designed to sell Prime membership subscriptions. Usually held in July, the 48-hour event offers discounts on everything from Instant Pots to running shoes. This year, Amazon promises more than 2 million deals in every category. But it is usually Amazon's own hardware that drops the most on Prime Day, with deals on Alexa devices, Fire tablets, Fire Edition TVs, and more. In fact, aside from Black Friday, Prime Day is the best time of year to buy Amazon hardware.

Amazon Prime Day originally began in 2015 as a way to celebrate the company's then-20th birthday. Since its inception, the retail event has grown into a 48-hour Deals Day celebrated in 18 countries.

Last year, Prime Day was held later than usual, in October. This was due to a pandemic that caused a spike in sales. There are rumors that Amazon may hold another Prime Day later in the fall, but the retailer has yet to confirm anything.

In previous years, Amazon has held a week-long teaser sale prior to the opening of Prime Day. Previous deals have included credits, dollar-off discounts on Fire tablets, and even deals at Amazon-owned Whole Foods; Tom'sGuide will be bringing you Amazon deals throughout the month, so be sure to check back.
