MacBook Pro2021 Launch Nears - Mini LED Display Production Date Revealed

MacBook Pro 2021 could be released in the fall DigiTimes has learned that Apple supplier Global Lighting Technologies will begin producing mini LED components in the third quarter of this year.

The report, noted by MacRumors, cites industry sources and adds further credence to the idea that a redesigned MacBook Pro will appear in late 2021. However, if the other leaks we are hearing are legitimate, the new MacBook Pro could be unveiled at the 2021 WWDC and released thereafter.

This new report is in direct contrast to previous rumors that suggested the MacBook Pro 2021 launch would be delayed to 2022 due to challenges with the supply of mini LED displays. However, based on the amount of other leaked information, it seems likely that Apple will announce a new MacBook Pro this year, and would be rather surprised if a mini-LED model is not announced.

Last year Apple announced the MacBook Pro M1, which added the Apple M1 chip to the exciting Pro laptop. It delivered very impressive performance and an impressive battery life of over 16 hours, but the MacBook Pro's design definitely looked a bit dated in the face of machines like the Dell XPS 15.

However, according to many leaks, the MacBook Pro 2021 will have a mini-LED display like the 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2021. A mini-LED is a display that uses thousands of tiny LEDs to illuminate the display, which can improve brightness and contrast over standard LED-backlit displays.

Given that the new iPad Pro's mini-LED display offers improved brightness and color over its predecessor, this screen technology in the upcoming MacBook Pro could be a boon for creators involved in video and photo editing.

A new design for the MacBook Pro is also expected, and Apple is reportedly developing not only a MacBook Pro 2021 16-inch, but also a 14-inch model. 14-inch models will use the 13-inch footprint of the current MacBook Pro, but with narrower bezels. The 14-inch model will likely have a larger display with narrower bezels while using the 13-inch footprint of the current MacBook Pro.

Inside the MacBook Pro 2021 is expected to be a new Apple M2 chip (or M1X), which should provide more CPU cores and graphics power. There should also be more distance between the MacBook Pro and the new MacBook Air M1.

The past few generations of MacBooks have used USB-C-only ports, but there are rumors that the next MacBook Pro will bring back HDMI ports and an SD card reader. The new MacBook Pro is also expected to bring back MagSafe charging.

Apple's keynote at WWDC 2021 will take place on June 7, so it won't be long now before the MacBook Pro 2021 is revealed before then. In any case, even if Apple does not reveal the hardware, we can expect to hear about a series of macOS updates that may hint at the future of the MacBook.
