Will There Be a "Mare of Easttown" Season 2? Following the cathartic "Mare of Easttown" finale earlier this week, fans are wondering if Kate Winslet will return to the Delco area to eat hoagies, drink rolling rock and smoke cigarettes.

If HBO orders Season 2 of "Easttown Horse," it will follow an entirely new case investigated by Detective Mare Sheehan, who has been on the case since solving the Erin McMenamin murder. The long-awaited finale, in which the identity of the killer was revealed, was so popular that it crashed HBO Max for half an hour Sunday night.

Mare of Easttown was originally slated to be a limited series (and would compete in that category at the Emmys). However, this would not be the first time an HBO limited series has aired for another season, as "Big Little Lies" has already paved the way.

And the show is ultimately titled The Horses of Eastown, which is not tied to the central incident of the first season (not even "Mardle Durdle"). Creator Brad Ingelsby is open to producing a second season.

"It was written as a limited, and there are no more mysteries to solve. If Kate and I can create a story that we're really proud of and that we feel is worthy of a second chapter in Mere's journey, we might do that," he told The Hollywood Reporter. [Honestly, I don't know what that would be. But if we could have a world where we could be certain that this is a continuation of the story that honors the first chapter and does something that the audience would appreciate, then maybe we would. But so far we have no idea what that might be.

Here's what we know so far about Mares of Eastown Season 2.

Even if HBO orders The Mare of Eastown Season 2, it will be a long time before it premieres.

Judging from Ingelsby's quotes on THR, he has not even considered the premise for Season 2, much less written a script. From previous comments, it appears that Ingelsby took about a year to write season 1 (consisting of 7 episodes).

And once he has written more than seven episodes for Season 2, a director would be added to begin filming. Perhaps Craig Zobel will return to direct the entire season, or someone else will replace him.

Filming would probably take about six months. Once that is done, the show will go into post-production and editing, which could take another six months.

Therefore, if "Mere Old Man of East Town" Season 2 gets the go-ahead soon after the finale, the earliest it could premiere would be summer 2023.

Of course, "Mare of Easttown" Season 2 will only happen if star Kate Winslet wants it to. She is sure to be nominated (and likely to win) an Emmy for Best Actress in a Limited Series.

Winslet is also open to the idea of a second season, telling TVLine, "I would love to play Maire again. I miss her. I really do. It's strange. I feel like I'm in mourning. She's a ridiculously lovable, intelligent, real woman. I loved playing her."

OK, Winslet will probably be in the film. Who else in the cast of The Horse in East Town is likely to return?

Jean Smart as Helen Fahey, Mare's mother, and other family members I would like to see: Angourie Rice as Siobhan Sheehan, Mare's daughter; David Denman as Frank Sheehan, Mare's ex-husband; Neil Hough as Father Dan Hastings, Mare's cousin; and grandson Drew Sheehan as Izzy King, and Saucy Bacon as Drew's mother Carrie Raid.

And while his character departed for a year-long teaching job in Maine, Guy Pearce may return as Richard Ryan, a writer and Mea's love interest.

At the end of the Season 1 finale, Mea reaches out to her best friend, so we may see Julianne Nicholson as Lori Ross. Lori's two children are also there: Cameron Mann as Ryan Ross (who is in juvenile detention for killing Erin) and Kathy Mandenk as Moira Ross.

If Season 2 is a new case, Mare will interact with her police colleagues, including John Douglas Thompson as Chief Carter.

Other cast members include: Kate Arrington as Frank's wife, Faye; Asa Davis as Mare's therapist, Gail Graham; Enid Graham as Mare's friend, Dawn Bailey; and Chinasa Ogbugu as Mare's friend, Beth Hanlon.

And while their characters are in jail, we see Joe Tippett as John Ross, Robbie Tan as Billy Ross, and Patrick Marney as Kenny McMenamin.

Sadly, the only member of the East Town Mare cast not returning is Evan Peters as Detective Colin Zabel, who was shot and killed in episode 5.
