iOS14.6 Users report major battery drain issues and overheating

Apple recently released iOS 14.6 to users with several security fixes and other updates. However, it appears that something may have slipped through the cracks of Apple's QA testing.

Several users have reported on various forums on the Internet, including Apple's own support site, that their batteries have become unusually drained and in some cases overheated since updating to iOS 14.6. This is more than a few people reporting the problem as more comments and threads keep showing up.

As of this writing, Apple has not confirmed any battery drain or overheating issues. But that hasn't stopped many people from adding their own experiences to the pile, with some saying that using new devices like the iPhone 12 mini caused them to overheat even during basic tasks like checking e-mail or browsing the web.

Apple has yet to acknowledge this, so there is no known fix of any sort for those affected. While the usual factory reset solution might help, it is a fairly drastic option to take just in case it might work. However, we understand how frustrating it can be to have an unusually high battery drain.

It is possible that iOS 14.6 introduced some bug in the battery sensor, making the system think the battery is running lower than it actually is. Or perhaps the update has not been properly tested or optimized and is using more resources than necessary. Until Apple admits or denies this problem, we will not know more details.

It should be noted that this is not a widespread problem on all devices running iOS 14.6. For example, we have not noticed the iPhone 12 Pro battery draining faster than before since updating from iOS 14.5. This may vary depending on your device.
