Samsung Galaxy S22 Could Become a Gaming Powerhouse — Here's Why

Samsung's Galaxy S22 may feature the high-end gaming capabilities found in the PS5 and Xbox Series X, thanks to a partnership with AMD.

At Computex 2021, AMD CEO Lisa Su detailed the company's plans for its RDNA2 architecture, seen in two next-generation gaming consoles, and revealed that the technology will also be included in Samsung's Exynos chipset. This could bring features such as ray tracing to the Galaxy S22, which should help it move into the upper echelon of the best gaming phones.

During his keynote, Su revealed that features such as "ray tracing and variable rate shading capabilities" will be included in the "high-performance mobile device."

Samsung smartphones typically feature either the company's own Exynos chipset or Qualcomm's Snapdragon SoC, depending on the region where the hardware is launched. Whether Samsung will switch to using only Exynos for the Galaxy S22 remains to be seen, but the extra grunt that Exynos may offer could make it an attractive move.

Samsung has been eyeing the mobile gaming market for some time, partnering with Microsoft to offer Game Pass on its Galaxy S20 series last year. Furthermore, with the PS5 and Xbox Series X still in short supply, unlocking next-generation gaming capabilities on future smartphones with Game Pass makes a lot of sense.

Samsung expects to touch on more details at its upcoming Unpacked event. The tech giant is supposedly planning a summer event where it will unveil its upcoming foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3.

Meanwhile, Suh also announced that RDNA2 technology will be featured in the Tesla Model X and Model S.
