Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 may Lose Some weight

According to a new tweet from reliable leaker Ice Universe, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be the lightest in the series.

The leaker simply wrote "Fold3 269g" in his typical shorthand. If the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is indeed 269g (9.48 oz), it will be the lightest in the series to date, a promising trajectory considering that the Galaxy Z Fold 2 (282g (9.9 oz)) was actually heavier than the original Galaxy Fold (9.7 oz) This would be a correction.

To be clear, the 269g Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is not in the feather-light category of smartphones. For comparison's sake, it is just under 18% heavier than the iPhone 12 Pro Max (228g, 8.03oz) and the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra (229g, 8.07oz), neither of which most people would consider light. [It's the two screens, the construction thick enough to remain resilient when deployed, and the battery to provide enough power. In that light, it's a great feat of engineering that Samsung was able to achieve a flagship foldable that is comparable in weight to other smartphones.

So why would Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 3 be lighter than its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is expected to launch this summer in July or August, almost certainly alongside the company's other foldable device, the Z Flip 3. Thanks to screenshots that appear to have been taken from a marketing video, we know that Samsung may feature the company's first under-screen camera and that the handset will also support the S Pen.

No leaked information on pricing has been released yet, but given that the original Galaxy Fold was $1,980 and the sequel was $1,999, it would be a big surprise if the new model is much cheaper.
