Despite several rumored upgrades to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, there is one key area that will not change: the rear-facing camera.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 looks to be an advanced foldable phone, but five of the phone's six cameras will not be upgraded from the previous generation. This is disappointing news for photography fans, but at least the camera below the display will still be included.

Leaker FrontTron has added leaked information about the Galaxy Z Fold 3, confirming much of what was already rumored. This includes specs, sensor size, and f-number for the three rear 12MP cameras (main, ultra-wide, and 2x optical zoom telephoto). These were exactly the same as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2's rear camera, which was already a bit lacking for such an expensive phone.

The main focus of the Galaxy Z series is to be a folding device, and when it comes to the best folding phones, Samsung is already ahead of the pack. Sadly, the Galaxy Fold Z 2 does not offer better camera capabilities than Samsung's Galaxy S21, as there is currently no effective competitor to the Fold series or the Galaxy Z Flip 3.

The rear and cover selfie cameras may remain the same, but the inner one is said to be a new under-display sensor, which could give the open Z Fold 3 a clean, futuristic look. As a result, the resolution will increase from the Z Fold 2's 10MP camera to a 16MP camera and the total size will decrease from 1.22ųm (micrometers) to 1ųm.

We have only seen one working under-display camera on the ZTE Axon 20 5G. The photo quality of this camera was not very good, and furthermore, the part of the display covering the camera sometimes looked odd, depending on what was shown on the screen. It will be interesting to see if and how Samsung addresses these issues with the Z Fold 3.

Samsung's new generation foldable is expected to be unveiled in July or August and released in the fall. At least according to leaked information, along with the Galaxy Z Fold 3, it will have a revamped "Split UI" and S Pen stylus support.
