iPhone13 leak reveals killer upgrade of all models

All iPhone 13 models could get one of the definitive camera features of the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the best camera phone currently available based on our testing.

According to a new report, an Asian electronic component manufacturer is preparing to supply key components for the sensor-shifting camera of the next iPhone. This could mean that even the most basic iPhone 13 will feature a class-leading camera.

Sensor-shift image stabilization moves the phone's camera sensor on its axis to provide better optical image stabilization. This is considered preferable to the lens itself moving. In fact, Apple has stated that this technology can stabilize an image more than 5,000 times per second. The previous OIS technology used by Apple provided 1,000 stabilizations per second.

According to Digitimes Asia, the iPhone will increase voice coil motor (VCM) production by 30-40% beginning in June; by July, the number of VCMs used in iPhone production will exceed the number used in Android phone production. This news has exciting implications for the iPhone 13 since VCMs are used to operate the sensor-shift camera.

Apple previously used this technology once in the main sensor of the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and it is now expected to be used in all iPhone 13 models. Apple is currently the only manufacturer with a sensor shift sensor in its phones, but Samsung is rumored to be working on its own sensor.

Digitimes sources predict that once Apple officially launches all iPhone 13 models with sensor shift technology, demand will continue to rise thanks to other handset manufacturers trying to catch up.

Rumor has it that this is not the only upgrade Apple is planning with the iPhone 13. We can also expect an improved ultra-wide lens on the Pro version of the phone, plus new astrophotography and portrait video modes. There is also a possibility that the LiDAR sensor from the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max will be used in all iPhone 13s, not just the Pro models.

When Apple unveils the new iPhones, which will likely be around September as in previous years, there is more to look forward to: it may be the first iPhone to shrink the Face ID notch since it was introduced on the iPhone X, and the iPhone 12 Pro models may should have a 120Hz display refresh rate. A faster A15 Bionic chipset will definitely be included, and iOS 15 will handle the software.

All in all, it seems that Apple is about to produce one of the best phones of the year.
