The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro could receive powerful camera upgrades to gain an edge over the likes of the iPhone 13.

This is according to Twitter leaker @FrontTron, who claims that the rumored next Google phones will have a number of big features, including a "gimbal-like steady cam mode." This is something we don't see very often and could help the Pixel 6 earn a top spot on our best camera phone list.

Earlier this week, longtime leaker Max Weinbach revealed a number of important details about the Pixel 6 Pro. These include a 50MP main camera sensor, an 8MP periscope lens, and a 5x optical zoom. Combine this with Google's usual computational processing and you have the potential for one heck of a camera phone.

The FrontTron leak points out that the upgrade will include a "larger Samsung sensor" paired with Google's Neural Processing Unit and Image Signal Processor chips, and further on the camera setup Talking about.

The most exciting aspect of this leak is the gimbal mode. While technically just an extension of the smartphone's existing optical image stabilization, it is an upgrade that will make it easier to capture crisp photos, especially in unstable, low-light shooting situations.

The Pixel 6 won't be the first Android phone to feature this major upgrade; the Vivo x60 Pro has a built-in gimbal that delivers smoother images than rival smartphones. The only major camera upgrades we've heard on the iPhone 13 are that Apple will add sensor-shift image stabilization to all models and that we may see a portrait mode for video.

The Pixel 6 series is not expected to arrive until this fall, but there are plenty of rumors about what the phone will include. This includes Google's rumored new in-house Whitechapel chip, an in-display fingerprint sensor, a 5,000 mAh battery, and a 120Hz refresh rate display.

There are also rumors of a selfie camera under the display, but recent renderings omit this feature in favor of a more traditional punch hole design.

As for the display, the Pixel 6 will likely have a 6.4-inch display, while the Pixel 6 Pro will be 6.7 inches; a QHD+ resolution has been suggested, but we assume this will only be on the larger model.
