All Electric Ford Explorer is coming - and the Bronco can get an EV makeover

The Ford F-150 Lightning may be a year away, but Ford is not slowing down its push into the EV market.

This was tweeted by Mike Levine, Ford's North American product communications manager, who said Ford has a new EV platform for pickup trucks and rugged SUVs.

An all-electric Bronco was only hinted at, but Levine confirmed that an Explorer was definitely in the works.

This should come as no surprise to anyone, given Ford's promise that 40% of its vehicle sales will be electric by 2030. Especially since the company's electrification philosophy seems to be to "replace old cars with huge battery-powered gas tanks. Such was the case with the Mustang Mach E and the upcoming Ford F-150 Lightning.

Of course, the electric Bronco has not been definitively confirmed, but it is clear that this car will one day be here. Levine tweeted a photo of himself standing by the outline of the unmistakably Bronco-shaped car, even showing the rear-mounted tires; it doesn't take much to connect the two.

The all-electric Explorer comes with a warranty, and Levin says it is the best-selling SUV in America. It is an obvious addition to the company's electric lineup, especially given that the electric SUV market will become increasingly crowded in the coming years. Ford will have its work cut out for it. So let's hope the electric Explorer can offer a similar experience to the gas-powered model.

It is clear that the F-150 Lightning is currently getting a lot of attention. It has a range of 230 miles (300 miles if you purchase the extended range model) and can charge from 15% to 80% in 44 minutes. Prices start at $39,974. But we'll be watching to see how Ford brings similar features to the Explorer and Bronco as 2022 develops.
