The days of unlimited Google Photos storage are coming to an end, unless you have a Google Pixel phone.

Fortunately, owners of Pixel devices will continue to get certain perks. And some models offer users different tiers of unlimited Google Photos storage.

If you are already a Pixel user or plan to purchase one, here are some of the perks of Google Photos.

The original Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL offer the best deals of all models. When these models go on sale, Google will offer full quality backup for life, and Google Photos will change, but this offer will not end.

That's all well and good, but these phones are about to be 5 years old and will no longer be the primary device. However, it still takes good pictures, has good battery life, and has been updated to the relatively recent Android 10, so if you already own one, it is certainly worth hanging on to it.

The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL offered unlimited full quality photos until January 2021. Not the best quality, but at least all photos can be stored safely in the cloud.

Back in the day, the Pixel 2 series offered great performance and battery life. These have been overtaken by more recent models, but they still take great photos and are compatible with Android 11 just like the newer models.

There is still a year left to enjoy unlimited full-quality storage on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL; after January 31, 2022, this service will end and you will need to reserve Storage Saver space like the Pixel 2 gang.

We liked both the standard and XL versions of the Pixel 3 at launch. In particular, the addition of Night Sight, a class-leading low-light shooting mode, continued Google's trend of great photos and powerful performance.

Google has stopped offering full quality backups for recent Pixel phones. Basically, if you own a Pixel released in 2019 or later, you will have Storage Saver capacity for life, but no full-quality storage options, unless you pay for it like a regular user. It seems unlikely that Google will make this offer more generous with the upcoming Google Pixel 5a and Google Pixel 6, but one can dream.

At the very least, these are still among the best Android phones, just as the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL were before them, although the Pixel 5 lacks sophisticated features like the infamous Motion Sense gesture control, It's a great alternative for flagship smartphones to take full advantage of Android's potential.

If you have the budget, the Pixel 4a is the best budget phone currently offered, just as the Pixel 3a was when it first launched. Both offer excellent features for the price, especially when it comes to photography.

The Pixel 4a 5G sits in an odd place between flagship and budget Pixel phones. It is a little too expensive to be a budget phone, but it has the same camera and the same processor as the Pixel 5, and is ideal for those who want the same ease of use as a flagship.
