This new electric scooter reaches 45 miles per hour — seriously

We've all ridden scooters that go about 35 mph; the new 3D-printed carbon fiber "Scotsman" scooter boasts a frightening 45 mph. Will you dare to ride it when it goes on sale this December?

The Scotsman electric scooter is made by the same company that produced the Superstrata electric bicycle, whose 3D-printed carbon fiber frame is custom fit for each rider. While not as customizable as a bicycle, shoppers can choose from five color options for the Scotsman scooter.

The Scotsman electric scooter will be offered in three versions, all three weighing about 40 pounds, can carry up to 350 pounds, and have an estimated range of 70 miles.

The main difference between the three models is their respective motors. As the price increases, so does the power of the motor. The top model, the Scotsman 2000, can reach a whopping 45 mph.

In addition to speed, the increase in power means that the Scotsman 2000 will be able to climb steeper hills than ever before. According to the company, the Scotsman 500 can travel on a 17% grade, the Scotsman 1000 on a 20% grade, and the Scotsman 2000 on a 27% road grade.

Instead of a conventional shock-absorber suspension system, the Scotsman uses a so-called "proprietary composite suspension system" made of carbon fiber. According to the company, this is comparable to leaf springs in cars. The company's goal is to make sure that the car is not hit by a pothole at speed, because hitting a pothole at that speed can be a recipe for disaster.

Other features of the Scotsman include a removable battery (which doubles as a smartphone charger), built-in GPS and Bluetooth, a front-facing camera, and an LCD display.

The scooter also features 10-inch pneumatic tires, regenerative braking, and headlights and taillights.

The Scotsman is available for pre-order today and will ship in December.

Starting at $2,000, it is much more expensive than a typical electric scooter or something like the $1,500 Apollo Ghost. However, you get a custom-fit scooter made of carbon fiber, other features, and an estimated range of 70 miles.

This is definitely an electric scooter for the elite, but is there as big a market for custom electric scooters as there is for electric bikes?Superstrata's bike was originally scheduled to begin shipping in December 2020, but the company's Indiegogo page The Scotsman scooter is scheduled to ship this December, but will no doubt ship a bit later than that.
