Listening to music while jogging at night just got more convenient thanks to Tidal's new Apple Watch app. The app allows users to stream music offline on the Apple Watch Series 3 or later. Unfortunately, users must forgo high-fidelity audio quality when streaming offline.

Starting today, Tidal subscribers can download the new Apple Watch app and enjoy their tunes on the go. The move means Tidal will follow the likes of Spotify, which recently announced a new offline playback feature for the Apple Watch, another reason the Apple Watch Series 6 will maintain its top spot in our Best Smartwatches roundup for the foreseeable future. This new support comes courtesy of Tidal version 2.26.0 for iOS, which brings the Apple Watch app to Tidal's user base.

Despite being slightly behind the game compared to other platforms like Spotify and Deezer, Tidal fans will not face any further delays when listening to music offline or streaming on the Apple Watch. To ensure compatibility, one should have an Apple Watch Series 3 or later and use at least WatchOS 7.1.

If all is well, simply download the Tidal app on your smartwatch, head to the Tidal login portal, and use the code displayed on your Apple Watch screen.

The downside is that Tidal's ability to offer lossless audio formats will be revoked on the Apple Watch; according to The Verge, Tidal, long known for its high-quality streams, is capped at 96 Kbps.

This is not just Tidal; Spotify is in the same position, confirming that streams will be limited to 96 Kbps when listening to music on the wearable application. As of now, there is no certainty yet as to whether Apple, which just announced that it will offer lossless audio as a free upgrade and spatial audio as well, will take the same approach. There is also a possibility that the Apple Watch will be limited to streaming hi-fi audio. Also, lossless music files consume considerably more space than 96 Kbps MP3s; given that the Apple Watch Series 6 has only 32 GB of onboard flash storage, a large offline music library would fill up quickly.
