Many Apple watchers expect the MacBook Pro 16-inch 2021 to appear later this year, as early as next month at the Worldwide Developer Conference. As a result, expectations for the new MacBook Pro are swirling.

The rumored Apple laptop would be the first 16-inch MacBook Pro to feature the company's custom silicon. This custom silicon has already delivered significant performance gains in the MacBook Air with M1 and the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1.

Rumors suggest that the new 16-inch MacBook Pro will feature an improved M1 chip, currently known as M1X, and now concept designer Antonio de Rosa, based on leaks and rumors, has shown what the new 16-inch MacBook Pro with M1X will look like, and has created a fascinating rendering of what it will look like.

While we won't know what the new 16-inch MacBook Pro will look like until we see it in person, recent MacBook Pro leaks indicate that the laptop will feature an upgraded M1X chip, a 1080p webcam, SD card ports, HDMI port, and several Thunderbolt ports. If these are true, it would be a welcome addition to the longer chassis of the 16-inch MacBook Pro, which is certainly modeled in these new rendered images.

Rumors also suggest that the new 16-inch MacBook Pro will be redesigned like the new iPad Pro, with slimmer bezels around the screen and flatter edges on the chassis. The laptop may also feature a powerful mini-LED display like the one debuted on this year's 12.9-inch iPad Pro. This could be a big deal because mini LED displays can deliver better contrast ratios and brightness levels than standard LED displays.

The rumored design change is also expected to eliminate the controversial Touch Bar from the 16-inch MacBook Pro and replace it with a row of function keys. As we noted in our review of the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1, the Touch Bar's dynamic shortcuts, while occasionally useful, mostly just get in the way, so this would be a welcome change if true.

Regardless of speculation that Apple may unveil a new laptop at the June 7 WWDC keynote, we may have to wait at least a few weeks to see if any of these rumors come true. the 16-inch MacBook Pro's 2021 debut will reportedly be delayed until later this year due to component supply chain issues and COVID-19 delays.
