The launch of Google's next phone, the Pixel 6, is not too far away, on the other side of summer if leaked information is to be believed. As that time draws closer, we are hearing (and seeing) more and more information about Google's next flagship device. The company may be returning to a two-model release, with a larger Pixel 6 Pro expected.

Noted leaker Max Weinbach recently appeared on Myriam Joire's Mobile Tech Podcast to discuss the Pixel 6, Google's internal Whitechapel system-on-a-chip, and plans for its announcement and release.

Weinbach dropped a serious bombshell about Whitechapel. According to him, the chip will be somewhere between the Snapdragon 888 and 865 in terms of performance. In other words, it will not be a best-in-class processor, but no one would have expected that to be the case (especially given the rumors that Google is working with Samsung on it).

One reason Google may have decided to part ways with Qualcomm is because it wants to control the implementation of the image signal processor (ISP) and neural processing unit (NPU). This means leveraging more AI power to improve some things, especially Google's famous photography. Weinbach claims that Samsung will manufacture Whitechapel on a 5nm process.

That's not all; Weinbach and Myriam also discussed other specs for the Pixel 6. The larger Pro model is said to have a QHD 120Hz display. It will also have an in-display fingerprint sensor, a 5,000 mAh battery, and mmWave 5G, if Weinbach is to be believed.

The Pixel 6 Pro will have a curved 6.67" AMOLED display, while the smaller Pixel 6 will have a flat 6.4" screen, possibly 1080p, we have heard previously. The regular Pixel 6 will also reportedly have a 4,500 mAh battery, the same size as that found in the OnePlus 9 Pro.

Other upgrades expected on the Pixel 6 Pro are related to the camera, specifically a 50 MP primary sensor. This will be joined by an ultra-wide-angle lens with 5x optical zoom and an 8MP periscope telephoto lens. Coupled with Google's impressive computational photography, the Pixel 6 Pro could be an absolute camera powerhouse.

As for colors, Google may go with a peach, sand pink triple-tone design; Weinbach expects Google to announce the phone in October, but the ongoing chip shortage may push it back to November. We will just have to wait and see.

As for the Pixel 6 and Whitechapel, Weinbach's remarks don't stop there. He also said that the Pixel Watch will launch with the Pixel 6 and will feature Samsung's 5nm chip like many expect to see in the Galaxy Watch Active 4.

He also said that the Pixel 5a will be more expensive than the 4a, although specific pricing is still unknown; Google is straddling a fine line, as leaked information on the Pixel 5a points to it being quite similar to the Pixel 4a 5G.

As is usual with leaks and rumors, they should be taken with healthy skepticism. Nevertheless, Weinbach has a good track record and is usually quite reliable.
