The price of the Galaxy S21 series that Samsung announced earlier this year may be on its way down. And we have more evidence that the handset is on its way.

The Galaxy S21 FE has appeared on Geekbench and is revealed to be powered by a Snapdragon 888 processor; the very fresh Geekbench results, spotted by 91mobiles, feature the model name SM-G990B. Previous reports have suggested that the phone is the Galaxy S21 FE.

According to data accompanying the benchmark results, the phone appears to have 6GB of RAM (5.2GB available) and a best-in-class Snapdragon 888 codenamed "lahaina" system-on-chip.Android 12 is currently in beta and will not be released before the end of the year.

The Geekbench 5 scores reprinted in the 91mobiles report (381 single-core scores and 1,917 multi-core results) seem very low for a device with the Snapdragon 888. Incidentally, the Galaxy S21's multi-core score was 3,302. In general, one should be wary of Geekbench results for unreleased phones, as they do not necessarily reflect a performance-optimized chip and can be easily faked.

Previous Galaxy S21 FE renderings show off a phone that is flatter than the Galaxy S21 and appears quite flat. These renderings also show a hole-punched front camera cutout in the center of the display. They speculate that the screen resolution will be 1080p and the refresh rate will be 120 Hz.

We have heard that the Galaxy S21 FE may appear in August along with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3. Nevertheless, we believe that this budget smartphone will be announced separately from the foldable device, as it is likely to be in the spotlight at any launch event.

It will be interesting to see how Samsung separates the Galaxy S21 FE from the base S21 model. The latter is a $799 powerhouse, which we quite like. We also need to consider Samsung's Galaxy A series, specifically the A52 5G in the U.S. and the A72 overseas; could the S21 FE eat into A52, A72, and S21 sales? Who knows, but it will be one more Galaxy device to track.
