Tim Burton's Wednesday Adams cast, release date and everything else we know

Netflix has announced the lead character in Tim Burton's "Wednesday Adams" series. Yes, we will be learning more about this iconic young goth.

The series premiered Wednesday (of course) February 17. Titled "Wednesday," it is produced in collaboration with MGM and UA. While there are definitely creepy (as well as macabre and macabre) elements, the announcement describes it as a "coming-of-age comedy." As such, it is unlikely that young Mr. Adams will lose his sarcastic tone.

According to Netflix's announcement, Jenna Ortega of "You, Fallout" will play Wednesday Adams.

We know an amazing amount about what Wednesday is about to face. The announcement revealed that the eight-episode film, ordered by Netflix, will see her "deal with her budding psychic abilities, stop a monstrous murder that has terrorized her local town, and solve a supernatural mystery involving her parents 25 years ago" while attending school.

A Wednesday release date has not yet been set. Also, since it is in such an early stage, we do not expect a first public showing anytime soon.

At this stage of pre-production, it will be at least a year (if not longer) before the release date for Wednesday. That means 2022. The 2022 date seems almost optimistic due to the ongoing impact of the pandemic on filming.

According to Netflix, Al Gough ("Smallville," "Spider-Man 2") and Miles Miller ("Smallville" as well) have pitched the streaming service on the series.

Netflix then learned that Tim Burton ("The Nightmare Before Christmas," "Batman") wanted to join the series. In fact, Burton is very interested and will make his debut as director of the TV series on Wednesday.
