The HBO Max ad-supported tier, rumored to be coming in June 2021, will show ads and a little less content in exchange for its discount. But is it a good enough deal to buy now?

The new package, announced at the end of the WarnerMedia Upfront event, adds what Warner calls "the industry's lightest advertising." But on top of that, ads will be included when pausing a program. Yes, pause ads are coming. This is from ...... It doesn't seem to be a good thing.

The ad-supported rate for HBO Max is $9.99 per month, discounted from the regular HBO Max package of $14.99 per month. This is $2 more than the $7.99 per month for Disney Plus (no ads).

However, subscribing to HBO Max does not mean you get everything HBO Max has to offer. Big movies like "Suicide Squad" and "Space Jam 2" are available on HBO Max on the same day as their theatrical release, but only for a $14.99 monthly tier. 9]

To quote HBO Max's announcement, "HBO Max ad-supported tier subscribers will have access to HBO Max's entire content catalog throughout 2021, excluding Warner Bros. theatrical releases and same-day premieres on HBO Max."

In other words, subscribers to HBO Max's ad-supported tier will have access to HBO Max's entire content catalog throughout 2021, excluding Warner Bros. theatrical releases and same-day premieres on HBO Max.

This means they can get new "Gossip Girl" shows, "Flight Attendant" Season 2, new "Harry Potter" shows, and much more.

Frankly, the HBO Max vault is great, but the service has made its name with movies like "Godzilla vs. Kong," "Judas and the Black Messiah," the upcoming "In the Heights" and the movie "Dune."

Some may downgrade to the $9.99 tier if no major films are released that they expect. However, those who are not already subscribed to HBO Max will likely be disappointed to learn that this new tier does not include some of the biggest reasons to get an HBO Max account.
