Ford unveiled its new F-150 Lightning pickup truck a day early. The reason for this is that the all-electric truck was spotted behind President Biden during his speech at Ford's Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Michigan.

Ford kept the vehicle under wraps until today's official launch event. As far as we know, it is still being planned, but of course the President's visit means we got to see the car in person.

The F-150's lighting design is not that surprising, and is remarkably similar to the gas and hybrid models Ford already sells.

That makes sense, given that the F-Series has long been the best-selling car in the US, with 787,422 units sold in 2020. Switching to electric vehicles is a big step forward, and the familiar design will make it more appealing to truck owners who are still trying to decide which model to buy next.

Biden test-drove the vehicle himself, which was captured on camera, giving us a glimpse of the vehicle from a variety of angles. Ford covered up parts of the car, though, presumably to hide it from reporters and their cameras.

We can see that the F-150 Lighting has a large infotainment display, just like other high-end electric vehicles. We assume this is also a touchscreen, as it would be pretty dumb for Ford to have such a large screen and require a huge number of buttons to operate it.

It was also revealed that the car can do 0-60 in 4.4 seconds, and the president demonstrated how fast (and quiet) it is when he took the car away from the press corps.

Unfortunately, not much is known about the F-150 Lighting other than the fact that Ford plans to assemble it at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center. We do know a few things about the truck: pricing, release date, and specs regarding the truck's battery and charging capabilities.
