Google Photos is getting killer updates to make it easier to find images

Google Photos is testing a new feature that will make searching for images and videos of specific people easier than ever.

As reported by Android Police, this new search feature revolves around the use of filters to narrow down the options when looking for a specific shot of a person or people. And while there is little shortage of "Photos" search functionality as is, screenshots of this feature in use show that it will be a powerful new tool.

Google Photos already allows users to search for people by name. And if you enter multiple people and locations, Photos usually does a good job of showing you the photos you are looking for.

However, a new option currently being tested seems to offer a more intuitive and user-friendly interface that will help narrow down your search.

As shown in the Android Police screenshot, below the search box is a new filter that pops up as you type. This allows users to refine their search by a variety of criteria, including video, favorites, collage, selfies, movies, etc.

You can fine-tune your search by filtering all images and videos to include specific people, and this extends to filtering by groups of people.

This new feature is not yet fully rolled out and does not appear to be tied to a specific version of Google Photos.

So there is no way of knowing when it will appear on your device, but when it does, it will be a useful new feature. Just keep in mind that Google Photos is going through some major changes starting June 1, when unlimited free storage ends.
