Kia EV6 is the dream of technology enthusiasts - it is coming to the United States next year

Kia Motors has revealed details of the company's first battery-electric vehicle, the 2022 Kia EV6, which will be introduced in the United States early next year.

This is the first part of the automaker's "Plan S" strategy, which promises to bring 11 new all-electric vehicles to US roads by 2026. But this is more than just a starting point. The Kia EV6 is a tech lover's dream and will be loaded with high-tech features.

The Kia EV6 marks a turning point for Kia's electric vehicle series. While not the company's first all-electric vehicle, it is the first dedicated model to be built by the new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). This platform will play an important role in Kia's future, especially where CUVs are concerned.

Its purpose is to maximize development efficiency, allowing Kia to expand its electric portfolio across different segments of the EV market in a shorter period of time. This includes the production of sedans, CUVs, and SUVs, which will be built on the adaptable foundation of the e-GMP.

"Vehicles emerging from this platform will be notable for their fast-charging capabilities, all-wheel drive, long range, and strong levels of performance.

The EV6 will also launch an entirely new naming convention. Unlike Kia's e-Niro, for example, the EV6 is not modeled after a gasoline-powered car and cannot steal its name. Kia has therefore decided to name future electric cars "EV" plus a number that indicates where the car stands in its electric vehicle portfolio.

Since charging a car is not the same as filling up with gasoline, EV manufacturers have focused on ensuring that charging is as convenient as technically possible. Not only does this mean larger batteries and longer range, but it also means significantly shorter charging times.

The Kia EV6 First Edition is equipped with a 77.4 kWh battery, promising a range of about 300 miles. Other models will be powered by a 58 kWh battery, but it is unclear how far the smaller model will be able to travel.

As for charging, the EV6 can handle up to 350 kW DC charging, adding 70 miles of range in just 5 minutes; if you charge from 10% to 80%, you can get up to 210 miles of range in 18 minutes; if you can find a 350 kW charger, that is pretty impressive!

On the other hand, the range is much longer.

The EV6, on the other hand, supports AC fast charging at up to 11 kW and can charge from 10% to 100% in 7 hours and 10 minutes; the EV6 can also charge between vehicles at 1.1 kW, which Kia says is equivalent to a 110 V charger. They say it can draw power from the car for up to 16 hours from a full charge.

The Kia EV6 has many of the features one would expect from a Hyundai EV, including the use of recycled and sustainable materials, vegan leather surfaces, LED lighting, and ample cargo space (27.7 to 53.5 cubic feet). But that's not all.

Of note is the augmented reality heads-up display, which projects graphics from the base of the windshield. In images released by Kia, the HUD displays current speed, speed limits, directions, and other important information; since the HUD is projected onto the road, there is no need to keep looking at the dashboard.

Other notable features include blue light filters for infotainment and TFT cluster displays, wireless charging, a 14-speaker Meridian premium audio system, four cameras with a 360-degree view, parking sensors, remote parking assistance and other notable features.

But that's not all: the EV6 is also packed with safety features such as rear-seat passenger alerts, Safe Exit Assistance that warns you if you try to open the door to traffic, Blind Spot Detection, Collision Avoidance that applies the brakes if you get too close to a vehicle in front, Automatic High Beam It is also loaded with features. Also included are alerts for inattentive drivers, smart cruise control, lane change assist, speed limit recognition, and warnings for detecting backed-up traffic.

It's a lot to pack so much into one car, but we'd be more impressed if we knew how much this would cost in the US.

This comes out to $58,161 and $82,725 when converted directly to currency, but it is not clear what Kia intends to price it at in the US market.
