The teams that finish seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth in their conference will determine the seventh and eighth seeds for the playoffs in a play-in game. The winner of Hornets-Pacers will advance to play the loser of Wizards-Celtics. The winner of this game will be the 8th seed in the NBA playoffs and will face the top seeded 76ers.

The Hornets (33-39) have lost their last five games and are languishing in the playoffs. Charlotte was led this season by veteran guard Terry Rozier, who averaged a team-high 20.4 points per game. The play of Rookie of the Year candidate Lemelo Ball, who overcame a broken wrist to average 15.7 points and 6.1 assists per game, was one of Charlotte's bright sports this season. Ball missed 21 games before the Hornets returned to make the playoffs.

The Pacers (34-38) finished the season with a better record than Charlotte, winning four of their last seven games after Gorga Vitaze and assistant coach Greg Foster got into a heated argument on the Pacers' bench against the Kings on May 5, earned a spot in the play-in tournament. The Pacers are led by two-time All-Star Domantas Sabonis, whose presence is a big reason Indiana is a top-three team in points in the paint after injuries to Caris LaVert and Malcolm Brockdon.

The Hornets are 2-1 in the season series with the Pacers. The Pacers are 3-point favorites. Over/Under is 228.
