Most of us can't afford a Tesla Cybertruck. Because who wouldn't want to drive around in the world's first angry triangle car? But thanks to Hot Wheels, a small toy car manufacturer, there is a solution.

If you missed this the first time around, Mattel announced early last year that it would build a $399 remote-control cyber truck. That was pushed back to the end of 2020 and is now slated to arrive this May. [It will include a cyber quad that can jump on the back of the truck, just as Eron did when the cyber truck debuted. The cyberquad is not powered or controlled, but it is a nifty little prop to accompany the main event.

The 1:10 model cyber truck goes on sale this Friday and, like the original version, will be available in limited numbers. It will go about 12 mph, which is about half as fast as the first version. There is also a fancy controller inspired by the Cybertruck wheel, which is a nice detail.

Cnet's Bridget Carey was able to get her hands on not only the new $100 Hot Wheels Tesla Cybertruck, but also a much more expensive limited edition. Unfortunately, the toy version isn't as sturdy as the real stainless steel version.

If you are interested in purchasing one, good luck. Sales will begin on Friday, May 21, and if all goes well, deliveries should be made by mid-September. Delivery of the real Cybertruck is more uncertain. The cybertrucks will be produced at Tesla's new Texas plant, which is not yet ready. Therefore, it could be a year or more before these vehicles begin shipping.
