The Tesla Model S plaid could have a retractable spoiler - here's your first look

A prototype of the Tesla Model S Plaid has been spotted in the real world and appears to have a retractable spoiler in the trunk (via Electrek).

While not uncommon on luxury sports cars, this is a new feature for Tesla. And the inclusion of this equipment suggests that the Model S Plaid can handle considerable speed.

Yet we already knew that. Tesla has already announced that the Model S Plaid has a top speed of 200 mph and can go from 0-60 mph in 1.99 seconds. The range is 390 miles, but the Plaid Plus will have a range of over 520 miles. In short, it is a very impressive car.

It makes sense that Tesla is trying to break several track records, often testing the car's performance at California's Laguna Seca Raceway. It was here that the retractable spoiler was first spotted.

Since this is likely a prototype model, there is no guarantee that the retractable spoiler will make it to the final production Model S Plaid or Plaid Plus. However, there are still a few months until the launch of the standard Plaid model, which is expected in August or September of this year. Much could change in the meantime.

Similarly, the Plaid Plus is expected to arrive in mid-2022, which would give Tesla even more time to make changes to the design. Unfortunately, it is impossible to say which is more likely. Both cars are extremely powerful and Tesla is proud to say that they are among the fastest production cars ever built.

If ever a Tesla model needed a spoiler, it would be the Model S Plaid and Plaid Plus. And a retractable spoiler that comes out only when needed would certainly match Tesla's luxury aesthetic. The fact that it has already been employed in other high-end sports cars means that this technology has been proven to work.

Prices for the Model S Plaid start at $114,490 and the Model S Plaid Plus at $144,490. Both vehicles have tri-motor all-wheel drive and all the usual luxury features one would expect from Tesla, including Autopilot, optional FSD Autopilot, three interior high-resolution displays, yoke steering wheel, 22-speaker audio system, smoked glass roof

The car is also equipped with.
