Zack Snyder, director of "Man of Steel" and "Batman vs. Superman," has given his own take on the "Black Superman" reboot involving J.J. Abrams. [Snyder himself, however, has nothing against J.J. Abrams. Even with the relative success of Zack Snyder's "Justice League," released earlier this year on HBO Max, the controversial director has gracefully handed over the keys to the kingdom.

According to reports, J.J. Abrams' reboot of "Man of Steel" will feature a black actor in the lead role, and Henry Cavill, who has played Superman in every DCEU film to date, may be taking off the cape. At the very least, he will have more time to focus on hunting monsters in The Witcher Season 2.

Snyder told Radio Times about the project: "My feeling is, I love JJ [Abrams] and I love what he's done in the past. I'm interested to see how it turns out, and I think it's a bold, cool, probably long overdue move. But I love Henry [Cavill] as Superman. He's my Superman."

I'm glad to hear that Snyder is on board with the project in development, and I definitely echo his thoughts that a black Superman on the silver screen would be very cool. Enthusiasts are hoping that Snyder will get back behind the camera for another DC movie featuring Cavill as Kal-El, but from his comments, he seems content to pass the baton to another filmmaker.

Further details about this new Superman reboot are rather thin as it is still in development; we do know that J.J. Abrams is involved, but in a producer role rather than as director. Reportedly, the film will center on Kal-El (aka Clark Kent), rather than a comic book Superman like Calvin Ellis.

Pending further details, the next DCEU project is "Suicide Squad," directed by James Gunn, which will hit theaters (and HBO Max) on August 6. Meanwhile, fans of Zack Synder will be pleased to learn that his new film, Army of the Dead, will be available on Netflix tomorrow.
